Reasons for the success of family rooms
To counter the success of the Airbnb brand, more and more hotels in different categories are diversifying to accommodate families or even young adults in groups.
Demand for family rooms is growing, and this trend is affecting all hotels.
There are two reasons for this craze:
- On the one hand, the growing number of blended families has changed the profile of some hotel guests.
- On the other hand, some young adults prefer to share a room in order to reduce the cost of their stay.
Why offer family rooms?
For hoteliers, it's essential to succumb to this trend in order to build customer loyalty. It also enables them to position themselves in a new way and reach a new type of clientele: families or groups of friends. Family rooms and connecting rooms are also Airbnb's primary clientele. That's why offering this type of room is an opportunity to win them back.
Some hotels have decided to embark on this project and have designed a set of XXL rooms directly for their establishment. This is the case, for example, of the Yooma hotel, which will open to the public in Paris at the end of May, and which includes 66% family rooms for 4, 5 or 6 people.
To satisfy its family clientele, the Au Panache hotel doesn't hesitate to offer a teepee in the largest family rooms.
The Intercontinental in Marseille
In Marseille, L'Intercontinental has set out to win over families by creating 18 family rooms for up to 4 people. The hotel also sees this as an opportunity to reach out to a clientele of friends and office colleagues..

During the Easter vacations, for example, the hotel welcomed 40 children, compared with just 18 in 2016. This can also be explained by the hotel's child-friendly facilities. Everything is done to entertain children: Balloons, coloring, games, adapted menus or even cooking classes for the youngest.
